This week on Savory Road we start our British Columbia Road Trip radio features. First stop, gorgeous Vancouver. We stayed in the False Creek area, close to the Olympic Village. A food tour with Context Travel topped off our Vancouver experience. We took an Aqua Bus to revitalized foodie haven of Granville Island. Our tour guide Anya showed us all the delicious treats of the Public Market.
Next we drove four hours east to the Okanagan Valley. We had heard that the valley region was pouring some great wines. We choose to visit Summerhill Pyramid Winery, not only because of it’s fascinating history but the actually store their wine under a 1/8th replica of the pyramid in Egypt. We also went up the road to Vernon where we were introduced to Okanagan Spirits and Distillery.
Next we made the long trek, by road and see to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. We stopped at Yellow Pointe Cranberry Farm in Lady Smith. Owner Grant Keefer showed us around his farm and told us how cranberries are harvested. Our last stop was Sea Cider Farm and Cider House near Victoria. We were fortunate to see the cider process from harvest to bottling with owner Kristen Jordan.
Savory Road Features air on Thursday mornings at 6:45 and 8:45 during NPR Weekend Edition and on Saturday mornings at 5:35 and 7:35 on 91.9 KVCR in Southern California or catch it streaming live on www.kvcr.org
